Children’s Museum Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Celebrate with the Children’s Museum as they mark the historic contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and the Civil Rights Movement with programs throughout the day. The Martin Luther King, Jr Day Celebration will be held on Monday, January 15 from 10:00 am until 500 pm.

King for a Day
11:00 am – 3:00 pm in the Children’s Museum Lobby
Read the speeches of Dr. King at the microphone in the “King for a Day” program hosted by The Saturday Light Brigade. All ages are invited to take the podium at this annual event.

Streaming Justice
SLB Radio Productions presents a live 5-hour webcast exploring civil rights accomplishments, challenges, and dreams for the future. Hosted by area teens from throughout the region, Streaming Justice will originate from the SLB Radio studios in the Children’s Museum and feature music, conversation, listener phone calls, and more.

On Freedom Corner
10:00 am – 4:30 pm, in the Children’s Museum Art Studio 
Freedom Corner, the historic corner of the Centre and Crawford Avenues, is a symbol of the home of the Civil Rights Movement in Pittsburgh. Create collages using images from both the Pittsburgh and national movement and write an idea that you would fight for on a picket sign, and then pose in front of the collage mural.
