City of Asylum Virtual Book Club: Disability Visibility

City of Asylum Bookstore at Alphabet City will be holding its October Book Club Meeting virtually this month. The selected book is Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century, edited by Alice Wong.

One in five people in the United States lives with a disability. Some disabilities are visible, others less apparent – but all are underrepresented in media and popular culture. Now, just in time for the thirtieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, activist Alice Wong brings together this urgent, galvanizing collection of contemporary essays by disabled people.

The Book Club discussion will take place virtually via Zoom on Thursday, October 22 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. If you are interested in being part of City of Asylum’s Book Club, or if you need additional information, email volunteer book club coordinator, Laura McGaha.
