Thoth Trio
Friday, March 31 at 8:00 pm
Thoth Trio features Ben Opie on sax, Paul Thompson on bass, and David Throckmorton on drums. Labelled as “intense acoustic jazz”, Thoth Trio plays largely original works and lesser-played compositions by composers such as Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Billy Strayhorn, and Sam Rivers. The players in Thoth Trio are at the center of a creative music scene in Pittsburgh. All three have additionally participated in OPEK (Sun Ra-inspired big band), Flexure (electric improvisation and modular composition) and David Throckmorton Quartet (groove-based improvisations).
