Enjoy a concert with the band Elder Ones, a quartet performing the compositions of vocalist Amirtha Kidambi, and featuring saxophonist Matt Nelson, bassist Brandon Lopez and drummer Max Jaffe. Kidambi, was formally trained in classical music, singing works by avant-gardists including Nono and Stockhausen. The pull of free jazz and Alice Coltrane drew her toward a different path. The influence of both Alice and John Coltrane is especially apparent on the new album, as is her work with composer and saxophonist Darius Jones, and her study of Carnatic music.
The Elder Ones concert will be performed on Wednesday, November 9 at 8:00 pm at Alphabet City, located at 40 West North Avenue.
