CSA Season Begins with Migrant Liberation Movement Suite

The New Hazlett Theater CSA Performance Series, the first and only performance series of its kind, introduces you to the freshest, most original artists in the Pittsburgh area. On the surface, the CSA seems like a regular subscription series, but underneath it’s so much more. Your share in the CSA doesn’t just pay for a seat at a show. You’re providing the resources these artists need to create professional caliber work. Beyond that, you’re helping to support Pittsburgh’s next crop of groundbreaking artists.

Migrant Liberation Movement Suite
Friday, October 12
Fusing soul and science, Migrant Liberation Movement Suite is a multicultural jazz performance that suggests that climate change is driving mass migration. Afro Yaqui Music Collective unites the music and stories of climate refugees from Mexico, Syria, and West Africa through jazz, dance, and theater.

The Afro Yaqui Music Collective is an indigenous-jazz band led by Gizelxanath Rodriguez and Ben Barson. With members in Pittsburgh, New York City, and collaborators from Tanzania to Cuba, the collective has a truly global vision rooted in the radical vision of social justice embedded in Afrodiasporic and indigenous cultures.
