Neighborhood Week: Classical Standards

Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild is hosting Neighborhood Week: Classical Standards with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

The historic 1950 recording of Charlie Parker and Strings will be revisited by NEA Jazz Master Phil Woods and members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Parker himself often referred to these sessions as being his all-time favorites featuring classical standards arranged for jazz quartet with strings and winds. Also featured on the program will be selections from the 1955 Clifford Brown with Strings recording performed by Dr. James Moore on trumpet with musicians from the Symphony.

Neighborhood Week: Classical Standards will be held on Friday, September 4 starting at 8:00 pm  at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, located at 1815 Metropolitan Street in neighboring Manchester. For more information about the performance, or to purchase tickets, visit the Neighborhood Week: Classical Standards web page, or call 412-322-0800. Proceeds will benefit the Manchester Craftsmen Guild’s “Youth in the Mix” Jazz Education Program.
