Off Minor Jazz Series: John Coltrane’s The Avant-Garde
Sunday, November 24 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
This Off Minor Jazz program honors the music of John Coltrane’s legendary album The Avant-Garde, one of the most unique albums in his large discography. This album features Coltrane with a chord-less quartet that included 3/4’s of Ornette Coleman’s classic 60’s quartet, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Ed Blackwell. The results were historic. Featured musicians for the evening are Don Aliquo Jr. on tenor saxophone, Clay Jenkins on trumpet, Paul Thompson on bass, and Thomas Wendt on drums.
