City of Asylum Jazz Poetry Month Continues at Alphabet City
City of Asylum @ Alphabet City, located at 40 West North Avenue, is the permanent home for City of Asylum programming and the arts. It is a hub for Pittsburgh’s readers and writers, jazz and small-scale music and performance, and artistic experimentation. It is a home for diverse voices from around the globe – a place where Pittsburgh meets the world and the world meets Pittsburgh. Jazz Poetry: Solo Piano Improvisations with Claudio Cojaniz and Poet Shauna Barbosa

Enjoy an evening of free jazz improvisations of blues, nenie, dances, and ritual songs with internationally known pianist, Claudio Cojaniz. Cojaniz worked extensively as a composer, and writes music for film and TV. Since 1996 he has been a pianist in the New DK Blues Band quartet. Between jazz sets, Cojaniz will collaborate with poet Shauna Barbosa, as well as poets from the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, for a jazz and poetry interlude. Featured poets include Roberto Echeto (poet, fiction writer, graphic artist, essayist), Salah Badis (poet, translator, journalist), and CAI Tianxin (poet, essayist).
