Shellshock Rock: Explore the Belfast Punk Scene

Explore the Belfast Punk Scene of Shellshock Rock! Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center is offering a free screening of Shellshock Rock (1979), the definitive documentary on Northern Irish punk by John T. Davis, with a Belfast and UK punk vinyl set with DJ John Carson.

Featuring Stiff Little Fingers, Rhesus Negative, and Good Vibrations label artists Rudi, the Outcasts, and the Undertones, Shellshock Rock is an affectionate portrait of the Belfast punk scene in 1978-79. The DIY film captures the atmosphere of youthful idealism – amid the everyday turmoil of the troubles – that set Belfast punk apart from its more rancorous counterparts in London and New York.

Belfast-born artist and head of CMU’s School of Art, DJ John Carson has dusted off his collection of first edition Good Vibrations vinyl and UK punk classics for this special event.

The Shellshock Rock event will be held on Friday, April 3 from 7:00 until 10:00 pm at Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center, located at 810 Tripoli Street, in neighboring East Deutschtown. Drinks are at 7:00 pm, and the film begins at 8:00 pm, followed by music and dancing.
