Submarine Memorial Service Aboard USS Requin

Submarine veterans of the USS VI Requin Base will hold a memorial service on USS Requin (SS 481). Veterans of the Requin Base will toll the bell once for each submarine that is on “Eternal Patrol” and will cast flower petals on the water so that they may “travel down the rivers of this great nation and to the oceans” where fellow submarines are at rest. The Marine Color Guard from Three Rivers Leatherneck Detachment 310 and the VFW Post 9199 Honor Guard will perform a 21-gun salute.

The Submarine Memorial will take place on Sunday, May 28 at 10:00 am. This event is free to the general public, who are encouraged to watch from the Ohio River shore. After the service, visitors can tour the USS Requin to explore what life was like on a submarine, and discover the challenges that the crew faced while on board. Admission to the submarine will be free all day.
