Yoga, Mindfulness, and Meditation in Allegheny Commons

The wellness gurus, meditation, and yoga instructors will be in Allegheny Commons Park for their Yoga in The Park Spring and Summer Series. Their sessions include Yoga, mindfulness, and meditation on Saturdays until September 29.

The classes take place from 10:30 to 11:45 am at the corner of Brighton Road and Ridge Avenue in Allegheny Commons.

All classes are free to the whole community and sponsored by the Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh and Monroeville in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Parks and in honor of the city’s green spaces. For more information, visit Yoga in The Park Spring and Summer Series, Be Well Pittsburgh.

The Sessions for the Yoga in the Park Spring and Summer Series include:

  • April 28 
    Lauren will lead an instructional yoga flow will start the series off with a vinyasa sequence, focusing on twisting, stretching, and compressing the abdomen for a bit of “spring cleaning” making space and intention to shed and lighten your spirits while inhaling the crisp spring air beneath the massive oak trees of north park.

    Creativity with Kayla “The only unique contribution that we will ever make in this world will be born of our creativity.” This yoga practice will help you to let go of comparison and cultivate creativity – the true expression of your originality. Paired with a special essential oil.
  • May 19
    Meditation with Holly, you will start by connecting with the breath and then you will practice a walking meditation. This is ideal for the city dweller who has little time to devote to a meditation practice.
  • May 26
    Yoga ‘OM’, You will practice and recite an OM and then do a light flow focused on connecting and balancing while bringing your strength into becoming steady in your core. In true vinyasa nature you will focus on breathing and moving between postures while focusing on your breathing. There will be Tibetan singing bowls during savasana to deepen the meditation portion of the class.

    Meditation with Holly – For this meditation you will be practicing a sitting meditation and will learn the core concepts of mindfulness. 
  • June 9
    Authenticity with Kayla.”Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” This yoga practice will help you let go of what people think and, instead, choose to live your lives authentically, on and off the mat. paired with a special essential oil.

  • June 30
    Lauren will lead a Yoga class Summer Solstice. In honor of the summer solstice you will salute the sun with an energizing flow. The sun is the source of all energy and you will wake yourself up and sync your flow to it. Tara will use essential oils at the end of the class to enter more deeply into the relaxation space.

    Intuition with Kayla. “Intuition is our ability to hold space for uncertainty and our willingness to trust the many ways we’ve developed knowledge and insight.” This yoga practice will help you to let go of the need for certainty and open space to trust your inner voice. Paired with a special essential oil.
  • July 28
    Lauren will lead a Yoga sequence of harmony beginning the class with a classic yoga sequence, stretching and flowing, and then add in free flowing movement and dance. Energize your morning with a combination of yoga and motion, you will enhance your practice with an EDM musical playlist and extend the range of your motion with this fun, all ages yoga class. Wear your brightest colors and come for some fun!

    Joy and Gratitude with Kayla – “Happiness is tied to circumstance and joyfulness is tied to spirit and gratitude.” This yoga practice will help you let go of fear and scarcity by bringing gratitude into your awareness and cultivating joy. Paired with an essential oil.

    Lauren will lead a Yin yoga class finding the peace and calm within. This stretching and folding series recognizes that this is a busy month for most and change is in the air. It’s a good time to slow down in the park amidst the high foliage of the summer sun. This will be an hour of yin in the sun with a really mellow meditation music playlist.

    Calm and Stillness with Kayla. “Stillness is about creating a clearing. Calm is creating perspective and mindfulness while managing emotional reactivity.” This yoga practice will help you let go of anxiety as a lifestyle and find value in calm and stillness as important aspects of your yoga and life practices. Paired with an essential oil.

    Yoga with Lauren

    Lauren will lead the final Yoga class of the series. You will say farewell to the solstice in the city honoring the month of the equinox by finding balance and strength among the trees. You will flow using the energy you built and learn a mantra to help you consider what you can shed or leave behind.
