Spend August with the National Aviary’s African Penguins!
Waddle, swim, or hop your way to the National Aviary this month to spend time with the Aviary’s African Penguin colony. Whether it’s yoga in the garden or watching a movie with these well-dressed feathered friends, you’ll have a blast with the African Penguins!
Sunday, August 14 – 3:00 pm
Did you know that penguins can paint? The National Aviary’s talented African Penguins paint with their feet, giving guests a chance to take home an artistic masterpiece from the Aviary’s Penguin Painting program! Guests will have an opportunity to choose colors for their painting and watch the artist at work. Advance registration is recommended. Call 412-258-9445 to register. Children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Penguin Yoga in the Garden
Wednesday, August 17 – 5:30 to 7:00 pm
Saturday, August 20 – 8:30 to 10:00 am
Set in the National Aviary’s flowering Rose Garden within beautiful West Park, a South Hills Power Yoga Instructor will lead a class for all ages and levels. After the class meet an African Penguin up-close. Learn about this inspiring and critically endangered species, and take your photo with these yoga classes’ inspiration. Tickets include the class, a subscription to Edible Allegheny, and a 30-minute penguin meet and greet! Advanced registration is recommended. Call 412-258-9445 to register. Participants must bring their own yoga mats.
Penguins and Pajamas
Thursday, August 18 – 5:00 to 9:00 pm
Come dressed in your favorite pajamas and catch a movie with the Aviary’s coolest residents, the African Penguins! Explore the Aviary after hours and keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to personally meet some of the penguin colony. After you make some feathered friends, you can make a craft to bring home with you, and then settle in for a movie in the theater! Before you say goodnight, help put the penguins to bed with a story.
