COA Virtual Book Club: Go, Went, Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck

City of Asylum Bookstore at Alphabet City will be holding its March Book Club Meeting virtually. The selected book this month is Go, Went, Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck, translated from German by Susan Bernofsky.

Go, Went, Gone is the masterful new novel by the acclaimed German writer Jenny Erpenbeck. The novel is a scathing indictment of Western policy toward the European refugee crisis, but it’s also a touching portrait of a man who finds he has more in common with the Africans than he realizes. Exquisitely translated by Susan BernofskyGo, Went, Gone addresses one of the most pivotal issues of our time, facing it head-on in a voice that is both nostalgic and frightening.

The Book Club will be virtually discussing Go, Went, Gone via Zoom on Thursday, March 25 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. If you are interested in virtually attending City of Asylum’s Book Club, or if you need additional information, email volunteer book club coordinator, Laura McGaha.
