City of Asylum @ Alphabet City, located at 40 West North Avenue, is the permanent home for City of Asylum programming and the arts. It is a hub for Pittsburgh’s readers and writers, jazz and small-scale music and performance, and artistic experimentation. It is a home for diverse voices from around the globe – a place where Pittsburgh meets the world and the world meets Pittsburgh. Voted “Best Jazz Vocalist” in Pittsburgh for 8 consecutive years, Etta has also received the Harry Schwalb Award for Excellence in the Arts, was selected as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Pittsburgh by Pittsburgh Magazine, voted Performer of the Year by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, received Talk Magazine’s 2008 Walt Harper All that Jazz Award, the 2001 Arts and Letters Award from the YWCA, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Covenant Church on the Hill for 2008.
