City of Asylum Jazz Poetry Month Continues at Alphabet City

City of Asylum @ Alphabet City, located at 40 West North Avenue, is the permanent home for City of Asylum programming and the arts. It is a hub for Pittsburgh’s readers and writers, jazz and small-scale music and performance, and artistic experimentation. It is a home for diverse voices from around the globe – a place where Pittsburgh meets the world and the world meets Pittsburgh. Jaimeo Brown: Americana Song with Jamaal May

Jaimeo Brown will perform African American songs, sampling spirituals and work songs and the earliest American music. Between sets, these musicians will also collaborate with Jamaal May and Adriana E. Ramírez for a jazz and poetry interlude. Featured musicians for the evening are Jaimeo Brown on drums and electronics, Chris Sholar on guitar and electronics, and Jaleel Shaw on alto sax and electronics. Featured writers include poet Jamaal May; poet ​Malcolm Friend; actress, director, playwright, and poet Kimberly Jae; and Mexican-Colombian writer, critic, and performance poet Adriana E. Ramírez.
