Did you know that Victorians’ toilets (aka privys) doubled as trash sites, where they would dump their used bottles, broken dolls, and other refuse? Over time, these sites were filled in, leaving behind veritable treasure troves for modern-day antiques enthusiasts to dig up.
Plan to come to Mexican War Streets Society special General Membership Meeting where you can hear Tim Tokosh and Jeff Mihalik talk about their privy digs. You will learn what they discovered about local Victorian history, and see some of their fascinating recent finds. Come learn something new, meet old and new friends, and enjoy some wine!
There will also be a short general membership meeting before the presentation. During the meeting, there will a vote for the new membership chair, Michael Beigay, as well as for the proposed changes to the MWSS bylaws.
The MWSS Privy Party and Special General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 3, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 416 West North Avenue. If you haven’t done so already, you can renew your membership online.
