National Aviary: A Day in the Life of a Zoo Veterinarian

Join the National Aviary every month for their new Speaker Series! Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a casual enthusiast, you’re sure to learn new fun facts during this exciting virtual lecture series. Hear directly from experts as they share stories about their work – both behind-the-scenes and in the field – giving you a sneak peek into their daily lives. Each lecture will feature a different topic, and the audience will get the chance to have their questions answered by the experts during the presentation!

During the next lecture, you can learn about “A Day in the Life of a Zoo Veterinarian!” with Dr. Pilar Fish, Senior Director, Zoological Advancements and Avian Medicine at the National Aviary. What’s it like to spend your days providing medical care for more than 550 birds and animals that call the National Aviary home? You will get a behind-the-scenes look at the National Aviary’s Teaching Hospital. You’ll meet feathered friends like Milo, a Call Duck, and Bam Bam, a Red-legged Seriema, each with their own individualized care plan, specialized diet, and custom-made habitat. Dr. Fish will talk about the day-to-day work of the National Aviary’s veterinary staff, the state-of-the-art facilities they work in, and their favorite bird stories.

“A Day in the Life of a Zoo Veterinarian!” with Dr. Pilar Fish will be held virtually on Friday, August 28 at 7:00 pm. For more information, or to purchase your ticket, visit the National Aviary Speaker Series event page.
