Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center is working in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s Food City Community Garden to establish Neu City, an annual public art initiative. Beginning in Spring 2015, Neu City will merge urban farming with contemporary art practices to promote sustainability and community interaction. The goal of Neu City is to provide the resources to perpetuate a community driven economy, fulfilling of the universal need for beauty, to engage in the creative process and to cultivate meaningful relationships between people and place.
Neu City will be offering artist-run workshops and community events at Food City, Neu Kirche, Children’s Museum, and Artists Image Resource. Local artists are invited to submit proposals for a workshop or event. Proposals will be considered by a panel including Neu Kirche and Children’s Museum staff and consultants. Successful proposals will demonstrate thoughtful use of recycled materials and concepts that complement Food City’s and Neu City’s programming visions. Interested artists should submit a project proposal by the March 22 deadline.
