Do you currently have a feathery friend in your home? Are you thinking of adding one to your family? The National Aviary will help you learn how to enhance your relationship with your pet parrot by gaining the knowledge and skills to raise and maintain happy, healthy birds. These classes can also help prospective owners decide if they are up to the rewarding but complicated task of caring for a parrot for its lifespan, which can be up to 80 years! The National Aviary is offering three classes:
- Saturday, April 2: Class participants will learn how to create the best environment for your pet, from cage design and perches to safe toys and healthy diets.
- Saturday, May 21: Class participants will learn how to train their pet bird through positive reinforcement. This class includes live training demonstrations with National Aviary birds.
- Saturday, June 4: Class participants will learn how to redirect chewing, screaming and other problem behaviors with natural activities your parrot enjoys, and make toys to take home to your pet.
Preregistration is required for these classes. For more information, visit the Positive Parroting Workshops event page, or email education.programs@aviary.org. To register, call 412-258-9439.
