Spring Science Workshops: April 2015

This spring, have fun discovering and learning about tons of science topics at the Carnegie Science Center! The Spring Science Workshops will be held through May and are open to all children. The Science Workshops that are scheduled for April:

I’m a Roboticist (Grades 1-2)
Saturday, April 11 – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
How does a robot sense, think, and act? Learn about some of the binary beings in roboworld™ and how they were designed and built. Discover how robots help people, and then come up with some robot design ideas of your very own!

Planet Protectors (Grades K-1)
Saturday, April 11 – 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Become an upcycle artist – creating masterpieces using recycled materials. Engineer skyscrapers and bridges using biodegradable packing materials. You will learn to take care of the environment in order to do your part to protect planet Earth.

Engineer It! (Grades 6-12)
Sunday, April 12 – 1:00 to 4:00 pm
Discover what it takes to become an engineer as you explore different careers in the engineering field. Learn about the systems engineering approach. Experiment with transforming motion and converting energy.

CSI Sci (Grades 4-5)
Saturday, April 18 – 1:00 to 4:00 pm
Become a forensic scientist for the day and help solve a crime. You will take fingerprints, collect evidence, and even make an edible DNA strand.

Build It Engineers (Grades 4-5)
Saturday, April 25 – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Discover what it takes to be an engineer as you learn about the different branches of engineering. Experiment with circuits and electricity. Learn about the city’s great bridges and create your very own blueprint.

Engineer Minecraft (Grades 4-6)
Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 – 1:00 to 4:00 pm both days
Put your Minecraft engineering skills to the test in this two day workshop. Spend your first day designing and building on a cooperative Minecraft server with other kids. On the second day, watch your creation printed on a 3D printer! Explore a virtual Science Center and discover what other secrets might be hiding in a virtual world.

Awesome Astronomy (Grades 6-12)
Sunday, April 26 – 12:00 to 3:00 pm
Become an astronomer for the day while learning about light pollution and how it affects the night sky. Explore different telescopes and astronomical equipment. Visit the Buhl Planetarium and study constellations, planets, the moon, and stars.
