Thirteen poets enter, and one emerges victorious! During the Steel City Poetry Championship, Pittsburgh will be choosing its representative for the 2016 Individual World Poetry Slam in this three-round slam. Pittsburgh’s best competing poets have been battling for months to gain entrance into the Steel City Poetry Championship.
Pittsburgh Poetry Collective is an organization that provides a space for self-expression, identity exploration, and social justice via spoken word leagues, performances, and community writing workshops. Although they are new, some of their programs have been around since the 1990. The Poetry Collective welcomes any opportunity for lyrical mayhem and believes that performance poetry heals, connects, articulates, and shares experiences as well as differences.
Steel City Poetry Championship will be held on Friday, July 15, from 7:00 until 10:00 pm, at City of Asylum’s Alphabet City Tent, located at 318 Sampsonia Way.
