Steeltown Jazz Storytellers Present Billy Strayhorn

Steeltown Jazz Storytellers is an exciting new series presenting the past, present and future of jazz in Pittsburgh. On the third Saturday of each month, from February through June, you have an opportunity to view an incredible video production from Steel City Grooves: Celebrating Western Pennsylvania Jazz. The video will be followed by a Storyteller’s Hour hosted by the “Voice of Jazz in Pittsburgh”, Mr. Bob Studebaker, and then two hours of amazing jazz music!

Presented by the Senator John Heinz History Center, in collaboration with California University of Pennsylvania Music Department, Steeltown Jazz Storytellers will be held in the second floor ballroom of the James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy in neighboring Historic Deutschtown.

The first performance of the series will celebrate American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger, Billy Strayhorn. This month’s event will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 8:00 until 11:00 pm. Doors open at 6:45 pm.The lineup for this month’s performance includes: Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, Tony Campbell, Howie Alexander, Abby Gross, Nick DeCesere, Beni Rossman and Jevon Rushton.
