Stoop is a Verb at City of Asylum

Stoop is a Verb is a result of Oliver Lake’s residency at City of Asylum, which began in January 2014. Following the successful residency, City of Asylum and Oliver decided to engage the Northside community through the mediums of discussion and performance. Oliver and a professional moderator visited organizations and a diverse range of people on the Northside to take the pulse of the community. Members of each organization gathered for discussions that provided Oliver with a comprehensive, honest view of life on the Northside from the people who know it best – those who live, work, and play there.

Oliver responded to the community’s insights with works of music, poetry, and art which he will present at Stoop is a Verb, a 70 minute song-cycle for a jazz quartet, about living on the Northside. Performing with Oliver will be Tami Dixon, Terrance Hayes, Gia T, and more.

The FREE performance of Stoop is A Verb will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 8:00 pm in the Alphabet City Tent, located at 318 Sampsonia Way. For more information, or to reserve your free seat, visit the Stoop is a Verb event page, email Karen Simpson, or call 412-323-0278.
