Launched by City of Asylum Bookstore‘s children’s book experts, Jen and Brittney, the Young Readers Book Club is for readers age 8-15 and will focus on diverse books. Members will read a new novel each month and have a chance to engage in fun activities. The first book of the Young Readers Book Club is New Kid by Jerry Craft. 

New Kid is a 2019 graphic novel that tells the story of Jordan Banks who experiences culture shock when he enrolls at a private school. The book is semi-autobiographical for author Jerry Craft, who based the book on his experiences in a private school and those of his two sons. New Kid is a timely, honest graphic novel about starting over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real.
