Sembène Film Festival Presents Yusef Lateef: The Gentle Giant

City of Asylum @ Alphabet City, located at 40 West North Avenue, is the permanent home for City of Asylum programming and the arts. It is a hub for Pittsburgh’s readers and writers, jazz and small-scale music and performance, and artistic experimentation. Enjoy a reading of Yusef Lateef: The Gentle Giant, presented by Sembène – The Film & Art Festival. Listen to a book review and discussion of the autobiography of Jazz icon Yusef Lateef, a world-renown and major influence in Hard Bop, Be Bop, World Music and other genres. Yesef is a a Grammy Award-winning, multi-instrumentalist, composer, poet, educator, and visionary. Herb Boyd will lead this discussion on the book that he co-wrote. This program will be held downstairs in the intimate Word Cellar room.
