Stoop is a Verb Community Night at Alphabet City

Stoop is a Verb Community NightStoop is Verb is the culmination of over a decade of Oliver Lake’s creative work and residencies with City of Asylum on Pittsburgh’s Northside. It was created in 2014 using insights gathered from a series of focus groups commissioned by City of Asylum with members of our Northside Community.

Combining the community’s voices and talent, Stoop is a Verb will be returning to City of Asylum as part of this year’s Jazz Poetry Month, and will feature spoken word, poetry, music, and dance performance that captures the vitality and culture of life on the Northside.

The Sunday, September 16 performance of Stoop is a Verb will be part of a Community Night that includes the original participating organizations, and, of course, our Northside neighbors! The 70-minute song cycle, created and performed by the Oliver Lake band and poets from around the US, will be followed by a moderated Town Hall discussion about what has changed (or not) in the last four years. After the event, Northside neighbors are invited to stay to continue the discussion and enjoy a free drink.

The Stoop is a Verb Community Night is free and will take place on Sunday, September 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Alphabet City. Plan to come to this significant Northside event and be sure to share this information with your neighbors.
