A Legacy of Community Impact

The Value of Allegheny City Central Association

Founded in 1969 as the Central Northside Neighborhood Council (CNNC), Allegheny City Central Association (ACCA) was born from a passionate and diverse group of residents committed to revitalizing their neighborhood.

The efforts of these dedicated neighbors have left a lasting mark, shaping the community in many significant ways:

  • Pioneering Affordable Housing: In 1978, we became the first neighborhood group in the U.S. to develop, own, and manage assisted housing, launching a 112-unit building at West Park Court.
  • Largest Senior Housing Provider: Today, ACCA owns and oversees 147 units of senior housing, making us the largest single owner of assisted housing in Central Northside.
  • Neighborhood Housing Services: We played a key role in establishing what is now NeighborWorks USA, a national leader in community development.
  • Building Strong Partnerships: ACCA was a founding member of major local initiatives, including the Northside Leadership Conference (1983), PCRG (1988), the AGH Partnership (1993), and the Allegheny Commons Park Initiative (2000).
  • Driving Commercial Growth: Our organization spearheaded the commercial revitalization of Pennsylvania Avenue & Brighton Road and Federal Street & North Avenue.
  • Transforming Housing Opportunities: We developed and supported numerous housing programs, such as the Northside UDAG, Great House Sale 1 and 2, and the Vacant Housing Program.
  • Fostering Community Spirit: We’ve enriched the social fabric of our neighborhood through cherished traditions like the Halloween Parade, Thanksgiving Dinner, and support for the Jefferson Rec Center.

From housing to economic development and community events, ACCA remains dedicated to making Central Northside a vibrant and thriving place to live.

Your Community Needs You!

For decades, Central Northside has thrived thanks to dedicated residents working together through CNNC and ACCA. To continue this proud tradition, we need more community members to get involved, fill board seats, and help shape the future of our organization.

As we prepare for our May 12th Annual Meeting and Board Elections, we need you to step up. With new members and leadership, ACCA will have the opportunity to make strategic decisions that can strengthen its assets and enhance its overall structure.

This is your chance to make a difference. Join your neighbors to discuss local issues, hear from elected officials, and help shape the future of our community in a welcoming and supportive environment.
