Carnegie Museum of Natural History: The Big Year Watch Party

Join scientists from Carnegie Museum of Natural History for The Big Year Watch Party, and meet the real birder behind one of the movie’s characters. The Powdermill Avian Research Center team and guests will be exploring the film and discussing their recent gynandromorph, the Christmas Bird Count, and more. The museum will bring the science; and you can bring the movie and snacks!

The Big Year is a 2011 American comedy film starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Steve Martin. The movie was based on the 2004 nonfiction book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik. The book followed three men on a quest for a Big Year – a competition among birders to find out who can see and identify the greatest number of species of birds in North America in a calendar year.

The Big Year Watch Party will be held virtually on Friday, December 18 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. For more information, or to purchase your ticket for The Watch Party, visit The Big Year Watch Party event page. The movie is not included in registration.
