In conjunction with The Andy Warhol Museum’s newest exhibition, Andy Warhol & Ai Weiwei, City of Asylum is presenting a free screening of the film Dang An (The Dossier).
Tibetan writer Tsering Woeser’s efforts to document the reality of Tibet cost Woeser her job and branded her as a “political problem” for the Party-state. As unrest in Llasa grew in 2008, her writing and her blog became important channels for the world to see Tibet. But as she documented the demonstrations and self-immolations within Tibetan, her personal life and freedom were thrown into increased jeopardy. Despite censorship and persecution, she has persevered as an independent writer, and has continued to speak out for the suffering of the Tibetan people. As an unexpected event, film director Zhu Rikun came into possession of Woeser’s official dossier which then became the main thread of this film.
As part of City of Asylum’s Silenced Films Series, The Dossier will be shown on Saturday, June 4, at 8:00 pm at the Alphabet City Tent, located at 318 Sampsonia Way.
