City of Asylum Pittsburgh has entered a period of exclusive negotiations to purchase the Masonic Building for its Alphabet City project. ACCA is requesting proposals for the development of fourteen vacant lots on Alpine and one on Carrington. Interested parties may respond with proposals for individual or multiple properties. The intent of this development is to create a significant impact on the 200 block of Alpine Avenue. Proposals should be consistent with related goals in ACCA’s Community Master Plan. Proposals are due by December 5, 2014.

New neighbors Kyle and Brooke, along with their dog Chili, are the latest additions to Jacksonia Street. Having lived in the Allegheny Center Apartments, Kyle and Brooke fell in love with the area while taking Chili on several walks through the Mexican War Streets.

University of Pittsburgh students arrived at Allegheny City Central to weed and mulch Mechanics Retreat Park, Drover Park, and trees along lower Brighton Road. Each year Pitt sends students to neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh as part of National Make a Difference Day.

Andrew Reichert and his wife Shannon knew they wanted to move from the East End to Allegheny City Central. It took some time to find the right property, but they settled on a renovated house on Boyle Street after looking at roughly 70 houses. They closed on their house last fall and have gotten more involved in the neighborhood since then.

The audience at tomorrow night’s Jazz Poetry Concert in Allegheny Commons Park is in for a special treat – a world premiere inspired by North Side neighbors. On Saturday evening, musician and composer Oliver Lake and poet TJ Dema will debut “Stoop is a Verb.” Nearly all the words and phrases came directly from people who live in Allegheny City Central and other nearby neighborhoods.
