At the May 11 General Membership Meeting, ACCA members voted unanimously to elect seven residents to the board of directors. Those newly elected will serve a two-year term and join eight board members whose terms run through May 2016. Congratulations and thanks for stepping forward to serve our community.

Dollar Tree has purchased the former Family Dollar property at 1516 Brighton Road and construction is underway to renovate the building and parking lot. The site plan has raised concerns for neighbors including deliveries being made between midnight and 4 AM through the neighborhood on Jacksonia Street, and a new curb cut onto Cameo Way.

ACCA is requesting proposals for the development of fourteen vacant lots on Alpine and one on Carrington. Interested parties may respond with proposals for individual or multiple properties. The intent of this development is to create a significant impact on the 200 block of Alpine Avenue. Proposals should be consistent with related goals in ACCA’s Community Master Plan. Proposals are due by December 5, 2014.

University of Pittsburgh students arrived at Allegheny City Central to weed and mulch Mechanics Retreat Park, Drover Park, and trees along lower Brighton Road. Each year Pitt sends students to neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh as part of National Make a Difference Day.
