A public informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 15 to discuss the possible expansion of the Residential Parking Permit Program (RPPP) in Allegheny City Central. This community meeting is being held to discuss what the RPPP program entails and to gauge the interest of the residents in the implementation of the program for their streets. This meeting will not determine the final outcome, but rather provide further possible avenues of action. The program is completely resident-driven, so the residents themselves will decide whether or not to have Permit Parking on their street.

Last Friday, we reported that the City of Pittsburgh’s Bureau of Building Inspection (BBI) was set to go before the Historic Review Commission (HRC) on July 2 for permission to demolish the vacant building at 1244 Buena Vista Street. The item was subsequently pulled from the HRC meeting agenda.

This plan is an extension of our larger Community Master Plan that highlights the importance of having a strong commercial corridor serving a diverse group of people.

The building located at 1244 Buena Vista Street (corner of Buena Vista and North Taylor Avenue) has been unoccupied for years. It has fallen into disrepair and poses a public safety hazard.

This week, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) granted an extension until July for Allegheny City Development Group LLC to close on the former Masonic Temple on North Avenue. The Masonic building will move forward with City of Asylum Pittsburgh as the anchor tenant, and the timetable for the rest of the buildings on the block has been accelerated.

Last Sunday 30,000 runners filled the streets of Pittsburgh for the marathon, the half marathon and relay teams. An early part of the 26.2-mile course winds through the North Side on East Ohio Street, Allegheny Commons, and Western Avenue, where neighbors turn out to support runners.
