President’s Statement on Recent Neighborhood Violence

Over the last few weeks, several incidents of gun violence have occurred, most recently and shockingly the shooting at the basketball courts near the former Kindred hospital. On behalf of the Allegheny City Central Association board, I would like to express our deep sadness that these events have occurred, and our wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for those affected by Tuesday night’s terrible incident.

Today, Judge James issued a decision in favor of the appellant. ACCA remains deeply committed to TREK’s Garden Theater Block project and to TREK as the preferred developer.

I am excited to start work on implementing a new vision statement that represents a new direction for ACCA. It is our hope that we can establish a pattern of community wide events, as well as foster activities that bring neighbors together, so that we might truly embody the tagline for the Allegheny City Central neighborhood, All Together. Call to Action: ACCA is asking neighbors to express their support for the Garden Theater Block project as proposed by TREK Development Group. TREK remains committed to the appeal process, and is very confident that based on the facts of the case that they will ultimately prevail.

At least two appeals have been filed contesting TREK’s Garden Theater Block Zoning approval. ACCA remains committed to supporting TREK and its project as it was presented at our last membership meeting.
